AutoCAD for the Macintosh has been updated several times since its inception. New features were added over time to address the specific needs of architects and engineers.

AutoCAD LT (Original Edition) was designed from the start to support the unique design requirements of the architectural and engineering community. AutoCAD LT 1.0 was the first version to be specifically optimized for the Macintosh. It also included a new user interface, new dialogs, and completely new project and drawing controls. At the time it was the first-ever project-based CAD application. In January 1996, Version 1.1 of AutoCAD LT (Original Edition) was released.
