At a price of $2.99 per month, Photoshop Touch has many of the same tools and features as Photoshop Classic on a mobile device.

There are three versions of the app, and each one has its own specific features. The Touch version of Photoshop is designed for tablets. The Photoshop Touch + Tablet and Photoshop Touch + PRO versions feature new tools and effects for iPad and other tablets. Photoshop Touch + Mobile and Photoshop Touch + Tablet offer the same features for smartphones.

To borrow a line from the movie, "Touch of a camera," the workflow for using Photoshop Touch for editing images is straightforward, but it can be overwhelming for the first-time user.

Here's a visual overview of the things that you do with Photoshop Touch.

Step 1: Open an image in Photoshop Touch

Enlarge Photo: At the top of the screen, select a file you want to edit. Use the screen capture button (marked with the arrow) to save a screenshot to your device.

Enlarge Image: You can capture a screenshot either by choosing File > Screenshot or by pressing the Sleep/Wake button and holding it down.

Enlarge Photo: One of the best features of Photoshop Touch is the capabilities for capturing screenshots. An easy way to get screenshots is through the Sleep/Wake button, which has a built-in screenshot button (marked with the arrow). You can also take a screenshot by choosing File > Screenshot.

Enlarge Photo: Photoshop Touch has options to keep your image saved so it's not overwritten during an editing session. The first option is the Save As dialog box. Use the arrow in the top-right corner to save your work in a different location.

Create Photoshop Elements documents

We recommend that users start with a simple, relatively simple document such as a portrait, a product image or a scene.

Also, it’s best to begin with a document that has only a few layers. Because the program is small, it’s easier for beginners to avoid confusing themselves or making mistakes. If you only have one layer, you should have an option to replace the layer with a new one.

Once you have created a document, don’t save your document on the computer or publish it. Because the program is simple, you’ll probably make a simple error and lose your work without a backup.

You must save and publish the document from Elements.

Use Adobe Photoshop Elements for editing images

Use Adobe Photoshop Elements to edit images of photographs, videos, and other types of images.

With a few simple clicks, you can replace part of the image with another image, remove unwanted elements, change colors, correct the color balance of the image, add a background to the image, crop the image, and add a text.

2. With a few simple clicks, create a new document or reopen an existing file.

3. Open the image you want to edit.







4. Move the image to your Photoshop Elements interface.

5. Create a new photo or image by clicking on the Create New Image button.







6. Click on the Modify button to access different tools for editing photos.







7. Using the various tools, edit the image you want to use.

8. Once you’ve finished editing, click on the Select button to return to the Insert dialog.

9. Click on the Close button to close the Insert dialog.

10. Click on the Open button to open the original image in a new window.

These Brush Tips will help you accomplish just about any kind of brushwork in Photoshop. For the brush tutorials I use the Canvas, Pencil and Brush tool, but the basics apply to all brushes in Photoshop.

Brush Tip Basics

There are two major considerations when using any tool in Photoshop, be it a pen or brush:

* How you select which area you want to use.
* How you manipulate the area you select.

The Brush tool works very much like a pen, but it has seven buttons on the side to control brush settings. These buttons control the painting action in an intuitive, simple and easy way.

Figure 2-1 shows you the left side of the Brush tool—the panel of brush settings. To use the Brush tool, you must first select the area of the image you want to work on.

The Brush tools use a dynamic algorithm to help you edit your image quickly and efficiently. To help you understand how to use the Brush tool, take a look at the following section.

Make sure you understand the steps for using the brush tool, even if you use a different version of Photoshop than the one I describe in this book.

Selecting and Using Brush Settings

To select the Brush tool, click the button that looks like the metal tape that you press against a glass or vinyl record to make the sound last longer. For example, in Figure 2-1 the Brush tool is selected by clicking the button that looks like a tape.

You can select an area of the image before you begin painting by using a selection tool, as explained in Chapter 3, "Selecting and Masking." After you select an area to work on, you then use the Brush tool to begin painting. When you're done, you then press Alt/Option+D to deselect the area on the canvas.

To make a brush, press the button with the small brush icon (it looks like a brush attached to a dowel) at the end of the tool or middle of the tool in Figure 2-1. You have a choice of three brush settings:

* **Brush Size:** This setting controls the size of the brush. You have a choice between four different size settings, from 1/2 px to 16 px.
* **Opacity:** The Opacity setting
