# Using Photoshop's Layers

After you've loaded a picture into Photoshop, you see a tab along the top that lists different _layers_ (see Figure 12-1), each representing an independent portion of your image. Many Photoshop users call this tab the Layers panel. In the upper-right corner is a thumbnail preview of the image that appears when you click the thumbnail. (If the image is large, the thumbnail is buried in the Layers panel, as shown in the figure.) To the right of the thumbnail, you can see the setting for the current layer. Just to the left of the thumbnail preview is a rectangular area that shows the document as a whole.

The Layers panel opens to the right of the Toolbox, as shown in Figure 12-1. The Toolbox is a permanent drop-down menu, and the layers are listed alphabetically. You can drag a layer up or down to change its layer order. As you drag, the layer's visual and editing properties appear in the Properties panel, described next.

If you've messed up and cannot remember what layer you were working on when you were interrupted, you can click a thumbnail thumbnail in the Layers panel and open that layer. This opens the layer in a separate window.

The most common way to create a layer is to select some area of an image, move or copy it to another area, and then hit the New Layer icon. You can also select an area of an image and choose Layer⇒New Layer, or you can use the shortcut Shift+Ctrl+N. When you create a new layer, Photoshop automatically creates a new document window, which is indicated with a folder icon.

Photoshop has many other ways to create and edit layers. The following sections cover the most common methods.

Getting Started

Adobe Photoshop Elements is very similar to Photoshop, and they share much of the same features. However, Photoshop Elements is aimed towards those who are not a Photoshop expert, so the interface is less intimidating and more simple.

First of all you will need to download the software. It can be downloaded from the official Adobe website, but you can also download it from other websites like GetCloudIfYouCan.com.

The interface of Photoshop Elements is very simple.

Open the program and double-click the icon on the desktop to open it.

At the top of the screen you will see the PS Edit icon with the program name. You can then click the icon to go into the main screen.

You will then be presented with two main tabs on the top of the screen: Tools and Workspaces.

The Tools tab includes all of the tools that are common to all software. If you open the shortcut menu, it will usually have a different set of tools.

All of the tools can be moved to the main menu so that they are easier to access. The shortcut menu is not visible when you hover over the top of the screen.

There are three icons to the right of the main menus:

These icons are useful if you want to save the software’s settings to a specific place. In other words, save the setup for the software as a new user so that you can have the default settings every time you start the software. You can also save the software as a new user so that it works for you.

The image to be edited is already open in the main window.

You can select the image from any of the locations inside the folder, but you should be in the “Picture” tab.

For most images, you will see the “Picture” tab. This will be the place that the image is going to be edited.

If you want to select multiple images, then hold down the Ctrl key (Command on Mac) and click the images.

Menière's disease is a form of unilateral vestibular syndrome with a combination of imbalance and hearing impairment.\[[@ref11]\] The management of Menière's disease revolves around the control of hearing loss and the prevention of acute and episodic vertigo and nystagmus. If an episode of vertigo and nystagmus occur, treatment should be initiated promptly to reduce the severity of the symptom. If it is not treated, a full recovery of hearing may be difficult and may even require cochlear implantation in some patients.

Many possible treatments for Menière's disease have been tried and all have proven to be suboptimal. The treatment of vertigo and hearing loss depends on the stage of the Menière's disease and should be tailored accordingly.\[[@ref12]\] The recommended medical treatment is the use of diuretics to maintain adequate fluid and electrolyte balance. A combination of antihistamines and antidepressants can be prescribed for the prevention of migraines and anxiety. Sedating antihistamines can be prescribed for acute episodes of dizziness and vertigo. The use of Gabapentin for prevention of migraines and anti-epileptics can be helpful in prevention of epileptic nystagmus and acute vertigo episodes.\[[@ref12]\]

In patients with Menière's disease, the addition of low intensity laser therapy (LLLT) to the treatment has proven to be an effective treatment. LLLT triggers neuroprotective, neurorestorative and immunomodulatory effects and is being studied for the treatment of many neurological diseases such as cerebellar ataxia and multiple sclerosis. The use of LLLT in patients with Menière's disease was studied by Baril *et al*.,\[[@ref7]\] and they concluded that the use of LLLT is effective in controlling the symptoms in patients with Menière's disease. LLLT has shown promising results in the treatment of Menière's disease, and in the next few years there will be more research carried out to establish the mechanism of action of LLLT in relation to Menière's disease.

A plaque is typically displayed outside the perimeter of a building or along a road side and when so displayed is permanently mounted in a substantially vertical position in the ground and is unprotected from the elements. Therefore, the prior art is replete with many styles of plaques that are designed to overcome or overcome the difficulties of prior art plaques.
In addition, many different techniques are employed for constructing a plaque. Two of the most common types of plaques are (1) the poured or cast plaque and (2) the printed and cut plaque.
The poured or cast plaque typically is a casting of the name of the person or entity to be honored with a base or foundation of the same or similar material as the plaque. This technique of producing a plaque is not only relatively costly but does not lend itself to be easily manufactured in an assembly line fashion.
The printed and cut plaque typically is a plaque produced by cutting and forming a block of wood or other such material having the outer appearance and dimensions of the finished plaque. The wood block is painted or otherwise provided with a printable ink and is then cut and formed to produce a plaque with the desired dimensions.
In both of these prior art techniques, the entire plaque is formed of wood or other material. The plaque is made sufficiently heavy so that the entire plaque will remain secure in the ground when placed in a substantially vertical position. Accordingly, a great deal of care must be exercised in positioning the plaque on the foundation or base so that the weight of the plaque is carried by the foundation and not merely the ground. Additionally, the printing ink and/or painting of the wood can be quite costly so that the choice of ink and/or printing color may be limited.
It is well known that accidents occur when plaques are placed in such positions on foundations or bases that are prone to being damaged by vehicles. The plaques, while being protected by the base or foundation, are nevertheless exposed to accidents by vehicles which may carry people or objects which strike the plaques with sufficient force as to cause the plaques to fall and to be damaged thereby.
The present invention provides an inexpensively produced plaque which overcomes the problems and shortcomings of the prior art plaques.
Generally speaking, the plaque of this invention comprises an improved base or foundation, a plaque body that is formed of a material having good moisture resistance, good UV resistance, and good weather resistance, and a pair of end pieces that are attached to the plaque body and the base, respectively.The Phoenix Suns are in
