Ivan The Screamer Smith

Ivan The Screamer Smith was a Jamaican painter, and one of the few artists who fought against the politics and corruption in Jamaica as of 1967, and the subsequent death of his younger brother Cecil Smith, who was killed by the gun of a corruption practicor, in 2005.

Early life and education
Ivan Smith was born in the then isolated Great House of Port Maria in Saint Andrew Parish. He was the only son of Serena Smith and her husband, Cecil Smith. His brother, Cecil Smith, would hold the same position of Social Affairs Minister as well as Home Affairs and Minster for Housing.

In 1967 he left Jamaica.

Career
He worked in the United States, and tried to become the first black elected president of the United States. His paintings, along with those of Charles Alston and Orville Taylor were featured in the exhibition The New Negro, at the New York World's Fair.

Family
His sister, Velma Smith, is the former Minister of Education. He is now 91 years old, and lives in the United States. He has five children, but lost three sons to AIDS.

Death
His younger brother, Cecil Smith, died of AIDS related complications in 2005.
