One of the most popular free image editors is Photoshop Elements. Although it is a web-based tool, you can download a copy to your computer. The program is designed as a quick and easy way to perform basic image editing. It offers the most basic editing features, including cropping, resizing, and sharpening, and it provides many of the basic tools that a photographer may use.

The program is easy to use and, although it lacks many of the professional-level features that are found in Photoshop, it is an excellent choice for novices and beginners. Figure 8-1 shows the basic editing window in Photoshop Elements.

You can perform most of the basic editing tasks that are found in Photoshop, but Photoshop Elements lacks the advanced features, such as the Content-Aware and Burn tools.

It’s also possible to use site’s built-in picture editor to apply toning and sepia.

This site is a simple-to-use photo editing tool that works with raw images, as well as JPG, GIF and PNG images. You can change brightness, contrast, saturation and add filters to your photos. You can also use it to apply a built-in preset or custom filter.

You can even turn your JPG, PNG and GIF images to black and white.

Chemical carcinogens induce development of a secondary cancer. In the study proposed, somatic recombination will be used to generate mutant tumor DNA containing lesions with specific chemical modifications. DNA will be isolated from normal cells and from cells transformed by a chemical carcinogen. DNA will be treated with specific restriction endonucleases. Amplified DNA fragments will be cloned into plasmids in Escherichia coli. The resulting plasmids will be isolated and the recombinant plasmids will be used to transform E. coli. The high frequency recombination will be increased by UV light. Individual recombinant plasmids will be isolated and examined to determine if recombination occurred. The DNA sequence of recombinant plasmids will be determined by the Maxam/Gilbert dideoxy method. The recombinant plasmids will be subjected to a DNA repair test. Normal and transformed DNA isolated will be separated using restriction enzymes. DNA isolated from transformed cells will be hybridized to a specific plasmid containing the same DNA sequence. Modified DNA will be purified from the normal and transformed DNA. Modified DNA will be dissolved and injected into mice. The resulting tumors will be examined for recombination activity using the methods described above. The specific aim of this work is to isolate recombinant DNA containing lesions induced by chemical carcinogens. This type of DNA is not often available because there are few methods for its isolation and detection. The clones from this work will be used to generate fluorescent and radioisotopes DNA markers useful in the analysis of the genetic basis of carcinogenesis.Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (season 1)

Can't change text in UITableViewCell

I'm using a custom class for a UITableViewCell, and this is the way I'm loading the data into the UITableViewCell:

The problem is the textLabel text doesn't change at all. It's always "Bob" no matter what I do in the custom UITableViewCell class. So what is going on?

Since you are using a custom cell, you don't have access to the textLabel property. If you wish to change the text in the cell, you can either:

Create and configure the UITableViewCell programmatically
Override setUpCell:forRowAtIndexPath: method in your custom UITableViewCell subclass, and add code there to alter the text

I'm guessing your confusion comes from the fact that setUpCell:forRowAtIndexPath: is called before the cell's textLabel is created. Your code snippet does show you are accessing the cell's subviews, which is why you can change the text of the text label. If you want to change something else in the cell, you need to either override setUpCell:forRowAtIndexPath: or access that view programmatically.
