Tools of the Trade: The Photoshop Workflow

A workflow is a set of actions you take in a sequence to complete an image or document. The word is used for both text and images. (See Chapter 10 for information on the workflow process.)

Perhaps the most important aspect of Photoshop is the image editing workflow. This process guides you through the many actions that you undertake to create an image that is ready to be printed or displayed. The following sections describe the workflow process for editing an image.

Recognizing the workflow

Anyone who edits images in Photoshop is familiar with a workflow. Photoshop has a workflow for manipulating images. When you first open a new image, as shown in Figure 4-1, Photoshop displays the Basic Tools panel, as shown in Figure 4-2, on the left. The buttons in the Basic Tools panel represent the most commonly used tools in the editing process.

Although some of these tools appear to be similar, they do different things and they produce different effects. For example, the top toolbar contains the tools that you use most frequently for the editing process. They enable you to change the image's brightness, contrast, and saturation. The buttons on the bottom of the Basic Tools panel take you to the tools menus where you find many tools to perform different tasks on the image, such as moving or reshaping an object, applying a filter, or resizing an image.

I'M ON A BLAST!

Hello my lovely friends! I have been in the live journal for a while now, always checking it to see if anyone has posted anything about my crappy days or random things that I want to share. I am in blog land again and I am so excited to tell all of you about my upcoming book! My book will release on January 15th, 2017 and to celebrate I am giving away some PRE-ORDER swag!

So what is the book about? It's about a teen girl who attends a boarding school. It's a little weird but it's exciting!

I am sorry that I have been a little quiet, I have been so busy my life has been a happy blur. The only thing that I have been "on" lately is finishing this book and writing this blog post. It's great to be done with that! My life has calmed down again. I am still reading and taking online classes. I also have started paying attention to my body and its needs again. So I thought I would start blogging again. However, I have struggled in the live journal with keeping up the quality. I am back! I am going to post more regularly, write posts that are long and informative like I did in the past. I hope you are all having a great summer!
