Although many successful photographers use Photoshop, many professionals prefer to use other programs for special tasks. One of the most popular and versatile is Photoshop Elements. Unlike other versions of Photoshop that are typically used by a single person, Photoshop Elements is a fully integrated multimedia package that contains all the editing tools you need to do almost anything in the PhotoShop editing environment, plus more.

Photoshop Elements

Photoshop Elements is a powerful image editor that offers a lot of flexibility. It's organized to make it easy to use. You can create and edit images, manipulate them in a variety of ways, and make web images with all kinds of functionality. You can choose the best of the multiple features in Photoshop that you want to include and access them with a simple interface.

You get to work with layers to create complex projects, such as picture collages or photo manipulations with several layers of effects. Additionally, with the layer panel and adjustment layers, you can mix and match effects and have a consistent layer across the entire image so that you can keep track of where you did what.

You can add text and graphics to images by using the built-in graphics tools, or you can import images and graphics from your computer or the Web.

Web design and layout

The Web environment is becoming increasingly sophisticated, and Adobe is continuing to create new tools to help designers create great looking sites. With the introduction of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), designers can control the look of their Web pages in a way never before possible and create very attractive-looking sites. You can also align text vertically, inline, or justified, create bulleted lists and more, and use color and drop shadows to give the site an overall look and feel.

Adding text

The Web Designer (see Figure 4-9) toolbar makes adding text to images in Photoshop Elements really easy. Just click the Text tool or click the Text icon in the Web Designer toolbar, and you get to the text window (see Figure 4-10) where you can add text to your images.

Photoshop Elements is perfect for introducing photoshop to friends and family, as the interface is very simple and straightforward. It is available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
