# Looking at the menus

Elements adds a lot of powerful features and tools to the editing toolbox. In the menus on the left side of the screen, you find the following:

* **Photoshop:** Get to Photoshop from the main Elements menu by choosing Photoshop from the Edit⇒Preferences... submenu.
* **Adjustment:** From the Photoshop submenu, choose the Adjustment tool's icon (the eyeball) to access the new Adjustment panel.
* **Edit:** From the Photoshop submenu, choose the Edit tool's icon (a pencil) to access the Edit submenu.
* **Color:** From the Photoshop submenu, choose the Color tool

Adobe Photoshop Elements is a free application and can be used to edit images, create new high-quality images, or both. There are different versions available for Windows and macOS.



To open an image file with Photoshop Elements, choose the import dialog from the File menu and select the Import button. Alternatively, you can also select an image or photograph in the Files window or the Open dialog (see File).



There are many ways to insert, work with and edit images in Photoshop Elements. Some of the basic image types are in the Image menu, such as: Bitmap, Graphic, and Shape.

There are also the basic filters, such as: Blur, Color, Distort, and Gradient. For more details, see Filters. Also in the Toolbox and in the Photo Organizer are the tools and dialogs required for image editing.



You can perform many operations, such as: cropping, color corrections, resizing, creating layers, selecting and drawing on a canvas, and retouching. In addition, you can also save your images, print or export them to other media. All of these are covered in more detail in the Photoshop Elements help.



Unlike the normal version of Photoshop (namely, Photoshop CC), Photoshop Elements is designed for professionals and hobbyists rather than skilled photographers. The interface is different and it can be hard for beginners to get used to.



The program is easy to download and use. It has multiple tutorials to help you learn the basic commands. The tutorials are not always in a user-friendly manner though. Because of this, many feel that Photoshop Elements should have come with an introductory tutorial. The software and its performance is stable. However, it is no Photoshop and offers little editing power.

Two men were arrested after a noise complaint at the Lee Day party in New Hyde Park early Saturday morning, authorities said.

A source told the New York Post that the party was "out of control," resulting in a scene that would make any partygoer question their taste in music.

Officers from the NYPD's 60th Precinct were called to the party on West 220th Street at 12:18 a.m. Saturday. The source added that half of the guests were intoxicated and that two men were taken to the hospital.

A Brooklyn College student at the party claimed that the partygoers were "all drinking in the street." She added, "Someone told someone who told someone that people are suffering drug overdoses."

The students also said that bouncers started throwing guests out of the building when more than 20 people refused to leave.

Police then entered the building, which the source said contained the main stage and VIP lounge, and were told by a security guard that people had been thrown from the building.

When officers attempted to enter the building and asked the security guard where the second floor was, the guard answered that they did not have a second floor. When officers asked the security guard how many floors were in the building, the guard responded that it was one floor.

At this point, the source said, the bouncers opened the doors to allow the officers to enter. The source then claims that "[t]he party was so loud, you could barely hear what the other party was saying. One bouncer was yelling at people in the street, trying to shut the party down."

When police entered the building, the source said, "they found the DJ playing music at ear level, and people at a table drinking, having a picnic," but the venue itself was closed.

The officers then decided that it would be easier to take the partygoers into custody, and as a result, the party was shut down.

In response, the source said that the officers "filled the rooms with cops and they just kept getting more and more intoxicated. They were throwing money on the floor, drinking, and they were stacking."

The source said that at one point, officers began trying to get into other rooms on the second floor. Eventually, "someone yelled to the cops, 'You can't be coming in here, the noise is so loud!'"

Q:

Why creating a unix timestamp column makes my postgres query take longer?

I have a database with a table that has 7 million records. It has a column named started which is a timestamp.
That column is indexed so the query with order by created desc takes a bit longer (20-30 s) than query with not index (0-5 s).
I would like to know why that happens and how can I avoid it?

A:

Unlike other RDBMS, PostgreSQL doesn't do direct substraction between timestamps - it performs a subtraction of 86400 by default (which comes from the number of seconds in a day). See here for more information.
That means that you are adding an overhead - also known as a function call. So I would expect 1-2 seconds for 100+ queries.

Division Numbering (UNII)

A list of IP address blocks as proposed by the Network Working Group under the auspices of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is available.

The list is called an "IP address space outline" and is often shortened to "IP address space".

IP addresses are represented by 32-bit unsigned integer numbers, whose number of significant bits is between zero and 28. The address space is divided into units called "prefixes" or "subnetworks". Each prefix represents an internet protocol addressable subnetwork, and there are 256 possible combinations of a 32-bit integer and some number of up to 4-bit prefixes that result in an IPv4 address.

The current address space in accordance with the above are as follows:

The free bits of the last block (4 bits, 10000000) can be used to define intra-block subnetworks. These bits have no significance in themselves, but are used in the process of creating IPv4 address assignments for blocks.

These addresses are divided into /16, /8, and /4 blocks; there is currently no /3 block.
